Even though the Heritage Christian Warriors scored an imposing 62 points on Saturday, the Sunnyslope Vikings still came out on top. Sunnyslope walked away with a 74-62 win over Heritage Christian. Given Sunnyslope's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked sixth in Arizona, while Heritage Christian is ranked 63rd in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sunnyslope got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was John Mattingly out in front who scored 18 points. The contest was Mattingly's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Darius Wabbington was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
Sunnyslope has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Heritage Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sunnyslope will take on Highland at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Heritage Christian and Valley Christian will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Valley Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches.
