Baseball Recap: Rye Takes a Loss

Rye extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They came up short against the Lamar Thunder, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunder this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 back in March.

Branson Burbidge was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

As for Lamar, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games.

On Lamar's side, Alex Aguilar was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Aguilar was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Cael Buxton and Ayden Hose did most of the damage at the plate: Buxton got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Hose went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Buxton has become a key player for Lamar: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Alex Williams was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Rye will venture away from home to challenge Monte Vista at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Lamar, they will host Burlington at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
