The Mineral County Serpents's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 39-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Smith Valley. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mineral County in their matchups with Smith Valley: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the defeat, Mineral County had strong showings from Chesney Wilson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Jayona Kimmins, who scored six points along with 16 rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jazmin Serrato, who scored five points along with three steals.
Smith Valley found their leader in underclassman Shannon Gray, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gray has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby DeChambeau, who scored nine points.
Mineral County bumped their record down to 2-8 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Smith Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.
Mineral County will head out on the road to face off against Virginia City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Virginia City is ranked 89th, while Mineral County is ranked 97th). As for Smith Valley, they will be playing at home against Pyramid Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pyramid Lake is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.9 points per game.
