The Regis Jesuit Raiders will challenge the Cherry Creek Bruins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Regis Jesuit comes in on three and Cherry Creek on six.
Regis Jesuit is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Grandview, sneaking past 2-1.
Michael Kroll spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Regis Jesuit's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Diesel Bernosky, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cherry Creek faced Grandview in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bruins were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Wolves. Considering the Bruins have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Cherry Creek also got a great performance from Cael Knobbe as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 5.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Sean Goldy was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyce Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Regis Jesuit pushed their record up to 22-8 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Cherry Creek, their win bumped their record up to 22-5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Regis Jesuit has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cherry Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
