The GVCS Broadfording Lions will take on the Morgantown Christian Academy Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. GVCS Broadfording is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.4 points per game this season.
On Monday, GVCS Broadfording strolled past Berkeley Springs with points to spare, taking the game 70-52. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.
GVCS Broadfording found their leader in sophomore Fernando Garcia, who went 12 for 19 to rack up 29 points and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Garcia has scored at least a third of GVCS Broadfording's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Monroe, who posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.
GVCS Broadfording smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Morgantown Christian Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Pipestem Christian Academy on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 36-32 win. The 36-point effort marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
GVCS Broadfording better keep an eye on Tyce Day. He was instrumental in Morgantown Christian Academy's win, putting up 12 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Cole Mathess, who earned ten points and five rebounds.
GVCS Broadfording's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points over those games. As for Morgantown Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: GVCS Broadfording has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Morgantown Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28 rebounds.
