The Atchison Phoenix won against the Jefferson West Tigers back in December of 2023 with 47 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. Atchison came out on top against Jefferson West by a score of 47-39. The win was familiar territory for Atchison who now have three in a row.
Atchison got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyeera Heyward out in front who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Heyward has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaiya Downing, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Atchison now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Jefferson West, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.
Atchison will head out on the road to take on Jefferson County North on Tuesday. Jefferson County North will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Jefferson West will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Perry-Lecompton at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th.
