The Grand Island Islanders will head out on the road to square off against Westview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Grand Island focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday.
Grand Island struggled with assists on Monday (the Spartans had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Grand Island was the victim of a rough 73-50 defeat at the hands of the Spartans. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Grand Island in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, Grand Island had strong showings from Mukadi Mukoma, who scored 18 points along with two steals, and Evan McDonald, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McDonald has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Westview humbled the Bison with a 67-34 victory. Given Westview's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Bison are ranked 260th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grand Island has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Westview, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
