If The Evangelical Christian Eagles were riding high off their 45-0 takedown of the St. Benedict at Auburndale Eagles two Fridays ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Evangelical Christian had to suffer through a rough 49-14 loss at the hands of University School of Jackson. Evangelical Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as University School of Jackson apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2018.
Evangelical Christian's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Emmanuel Moss and William Cheairs. Mossrushed for 75 yards and a touchdown, while Cheairspicked up 126 receiving yards and a touchdown. Cheairs' longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards.
Evangelical Christian's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-2 Jackson Christian and 7-2 Jackson Prep (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.2% over those games). As for University School of Jackson, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 5-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evangelical Christian will take on St. George's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. George's is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for University School of Jackson, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Benedict at Auburndale on Friday. St. Benedict at Auburndale comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
