Angel Yanez was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Nathaniel Ramirez was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those runs were his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Victory Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over High Tech Mesa on Tuesday, taking the game 10-7. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Thunder: they've now won five in a row.
Like Gompers Prep Academy, Victory Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Max Gardner. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Gardner has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Levi Wallace was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Nicholas Bulatao was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Victory Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Gompers Prep Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Gompers Prep Academy suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Victory Christian Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
