The Currituck County Knights suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Holmes by a score of 42-39. Currituck County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Holmes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Currituck County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Riley Parker, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals. Parker has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna White, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Holmes found their leader in underclassman Chloe Chappell, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Kate Foster was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Currituck County's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Holmes, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Currituck County will take on Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 550th, while Currituck County is ranked 194th). As for Holmes, they will be playing at home against First Flight at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully First Flight focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 last Thursday.
