South Bend Clay's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maliya Freeman, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. Freeman hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Tyrece Cunningham, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, South Bend Career Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight loss. They were outmatched by Bethany Christian on the road and fell 70-19. While losing is never fun, South Bend Career Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 418th, while Bethany Christian is ranked 139th).
South Bend Clay's win bumped their record up to 2-16. As for South Bend Career Academy, they bumped their record down to 2-13 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything went South Bend Clay's way against South Bend Career Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as South Bend Clay made off with a 45-25 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was South Bend Career Academy's Adreania Hyde, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for South Bend Clay to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
