Columbia is 7-2 against Suwannee since November of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Columbia Tigers just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Suwannee Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Columbia is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Columbia put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They breezed by Baker County on the road to the tune of 64-26. With Columbia ahead 39-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Columbia can attribute much of their success to MARIAH COX, who scored 17 points along with eight steals, and JOLENA GARDNER, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten steals. GARDNER has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of ERIEL BAKER, who scored 13 points.
Suwannee suffered their biggest loss since November 25, 2023 on Tuesday. Their tough 62-42 loss to Madison County might stick with them for a while.
Columbia has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Suwannee, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4.
Everything came up roses for Columbia against Suwannee when the teams last played back in November of 2023 as the team secured a 51-19 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Columbia since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
