Polytechnic is 2-8 against Mayfield since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Panthers will welcome the Cubs at 4:00 p.m. Polytechnic will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Polytechnic got the win against Chadwick by a conclusive 15-8. Considering the Panthers have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Amelia Shih was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Dannika Rivera was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Ellery Engstrom was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four runs and one RBI.
Polytechnic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.
Rio Hondo Prep hit Mayfield with a seven-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cubs lost 13-1 to the Kares. The defeat continues a trend for the Cubs in their meetings with the Kares: they've now lost four in a row.
Polytechnic's win bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Mayfield, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.
Mayfield's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Polytechnic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. It's a different story for Mayfield, though, as they've only averaged .180. Will they be able to contain Polytechnic's hitters?
Polytechnic got the 'W' in their previous meeting on April 7th against Mayfield by a conclusive 16-0 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cubs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
