There's no place like home for the Smithton Tigers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Wednesday. They skirted past Sturgeon 57-55. Given Smithton's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Sturgeon is ranked 338th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sturgeon's loss came despite strong showings from Connor Lawson and Isaac Bolles. Lawson scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Bolles scored 22 points. Bolles scored a full 40% of Sturgeon's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kayden Miller, who scored five points along with three steals.
The win got Smithton back to even at 2-2. As for Sturgeon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Smithton will face off against Kingsville at TBD on Saturday. As for Sturgeon, they will be playing at home against Jamestown on Saturday. Jamestown is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
