The St. John Paul II Panthers fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Munroe Bobcats on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 59-57. St. John Paul II was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Munroe apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mario Forbes, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Forbes has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Javier Santana, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
St. John Paul II struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Munroe racked up 23 assists.
Munroe's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karlton Knight, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Zy Reese was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
St. John Paul II's loss dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Munroe, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-8.
St. John Paul II's road trip will continue as they head out to face University Christian at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Hopefully St. John Paul II focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Saturday. Munroe will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Oak Hall at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. One thing working in Munroe's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matchups.
