Palmview is a perfect 3-0 against Gregory-Portland since February of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Lobos will head out to take on the Wildcats at 11:00 p.m. Palmview is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
Palmview barely beat Mission the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lobos put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 10-0 victory on Friday. With that win, the Lobos brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Osi Lopez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Lopez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaxzel Cantu, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Adrian Martinez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Palmview hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Gregory-Portland entered their match against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wildcats fell 4-0 to the Eagles. Considering the last time the Wildcats couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Gregory-Portland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian Garcia, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Palmview pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Gregory-Portland, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.
Palmview came out on top in a nail-biter against Gregory-Portland in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Lobos repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
