The Southern Wells Raiders will face off against the Daleville Broncos at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Southern Wells came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-6 to South Adams.
Southern Wells saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Yoder, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Yoder has launched this season.
Muncie Burris hit Daleville with a six-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Broncos came up short against the Owls, falling 11-3. The Broncos have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ayden Ramirez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Ramirez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Noah Colvin was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Daleville: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Caleb Aikin, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Daleville now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Southern Wells, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Southern Wells has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. However, it's not like Daleville struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Southern Wells couldn't quite get it done against Daleville when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Will the Raiders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
