OCALA, Fla. - the Knights scored 27 points in the second quarter to secure a big 48-0 victory over Lecanto (Fla.) on Saturday.
Vanguard scored on a
Tyronte Files touchdown run, a punt return touchdown by Files, a
Adam Robles touchdown pass to
Natrelle Jamerson and a touchdown run by
Master Bracey in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a Files touchdown run in the first quarter, VHS led 34-0 at the half.
The Ocala school expanded its lead to 41 points entering the fourth quarter. The Knights' lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by Files.
Vanguard's standout player in the win was Files. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
The Panthers came in giving up 16.7 points per game this season. Lecanto struggled against VHS's offense, which entered the game scoring 17.7 points per game. Coming into the game the Knights had allowed 22.7 points per game this year. Vanguard held firm on the defensive front, and kept LHS well below the 20.4 points it had been averaging per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, VHS came away with a 55-0 victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Knights, which was coming off a 34-19 defeat at the hands of Gainesville in its previous game.
Vanguard (4-4) will play a 6A District 5 game against Citrus next week, while Lecanto (4-4) will take on Gainesville also in a 6A District 5 game.
