The Willits Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Point Arena Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Willits was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Calistoga on Friday. The Wolverines were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Wildcats. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolverines considering their one-run performance the game before.
Abigail Sherf was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Chloe Wright, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Willits was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Point Arena had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Laytonville 24-14 on Monday. Considering the Pirates have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Alexa Ferreyra, who went 5-for-6 with seven RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Janessa Ferreyra also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Willits' record now sits at 6-3. As for Point Arena, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Willits has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .497. However, it's not like Point Arena struggles in that department as they've averaged .582. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Willits was able to grind out a solid victory over Point Arena in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, winning 12-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
