Douglas is 9-1 against McQueen since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Tigers will take on the Lancers at 3:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Douglas is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Galena, who was ranked 21st at the time (Douglas was ranked fifth). The Tigers were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Grizzlies on Tuesday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Haylie Pledger made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Douglas got a massive performance out of Camryn McLelland, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Cameron Coats was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Douglas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, McQueen narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Lowry 7-6.
The team relied heavily on Lilly Fanene, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Guber, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
McQueen's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Douglas, their record now sits at 15-5.
McQueen's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Douglas has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for McQueen, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Douglas keep running through batters, or will the Lancers buck the trend?
Everything went Douglas' way against McQueen in their previous matchup back in March, as Douglas made off with a 12-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
