The Brewer Bears will head out on the road to square off against the Northwest Texans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brewer has four straight wins, Northwest has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Brewer posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They really took it to Rider for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-27 win at home. Given Brewer's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Rider is ranked 667th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tyren Mitchell and Julian Perez were among the main playmakers for Brewer as the former scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and six assists and the latter scored 20 points along with six assists and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayvion Johnson, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Northwest came up short against Saginaw on Wednesday and fell 55-42.
Brewer is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. As for Northwest, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Brewer against Northwest in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 60-28 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brewer since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
