Meanwhile, Trinity Catholic had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Royals by a score of 6-3.
Like Cornerstone Charter Academy, Trinity Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Caylee Barbe. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Barbe has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lourdes Ornelas and Hailey Wilson did most of the damage at the plate: Ornelas went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Wilson went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That triple marked the first that Ornelas has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Kinley Forsyth, who earned three runs and two stolen bases.
Trinity Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Cornerstone Charter Academy, their win bumped their record up to 21-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cornerstone Charter Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Trinity Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
