Classical Academy pushed their score all the way to 39 two weeks ago, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Francis Parker by a score of 42-39.
Classical Academy might have lost, but man, Justus Smith was a machine: he rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry. Smith was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards.
Meanwhile, La Jolla Country Day scored first but ultimately less than Santa Fe Christian in their contest on Friday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 15-14 to the Eagles. It was the first time this season that La Jolla Country Day let down their fans at home.
Despite their loss, La Jolla Country Day saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaden Mangini, who rushed for 12 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 120 yards and a touchdown on only eight passes, was perhaps the best of all.
The losses dropped Classical Academy to 2-6 and La Jolla Country Day to 5-3.
Classical Academy came up short against La Jolla Country Day in their previous matchup back in September of 2022, falling 35-28. Thankfully for Classical Academy, Garrett Bass-Sulpizio (who threw for 384 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
