North Brunswick hasn't had much luck against East Columbus recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The North Brunswick Scorpions will head out on the road to take on the East Columbus Gators at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
North Brunswick will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Topsail, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. North Brunswick skirted past Topsail 8-7.
Shanley Hunt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. Those hits were her first of the season.

At the plate, Jamya Hansley and Jada Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: Hansley scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Thomas scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Thomas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katherine Kayler, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: North Brunswick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, East Columbus made sure to put some runs up on the board against East Bladen on Tuesday. East Columbus was the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over East Bladen. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Gracie Coyle made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, East Columbus let Mackenzi Clemmons and Jenna King run wild. Clemmons scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while King scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Sara Coleman, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
The victory was the fourth in a row for East Columbus, bringing their record for this year to 7-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8 runs. As for North Brunswick, their record is now 5-3.
North Brunswick came out on top in a nail-biter against East Columbus in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 14-13. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Brunswick since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
