The Atlantic City Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Wildwood Catholic Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
While Vikings fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Friday's season opener. Everything went their way against Cape May County Tech on Friday as Atlantic City made off with a 13-3 win. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Nelly Sosa made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Sosa was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two triples, and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Kayla Barrie was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with five RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Jojo Mejia, who went 3-for-5 with one triple and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Wildwood Catholic got themselves on the board against Pleasantville on Friday, but Pleasantville never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over the Greyhounds.
Like Atlantic City, Wildwood Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Johnson. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Johnson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Wildwood Catholic got a massive performance out of Julia Wallace, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Kristen Wareham was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Atlantic City couldn't quite finish off Wildwood Catholic in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 4-2. Can Atlantic City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
