The Crest Chargers entered their tilt with the South Point Red Raiders with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. Crest managed a 63-57 win over South Point on Tuesday. Given Crest's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while South Point is ranked 147th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Crest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jabari Thurman, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Thurman scored 15 or more points. D'various Surratt was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
South Point's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Graham Williams, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Christian Petty, who scored 11 points.
Crest's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for South Point, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crest will take on North Gaston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Gaston is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for South Point, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Kings Mountain at 7:45 p.m. One thing working in Kings Mountain's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests.
