Baseball Recap: Batesville Find Success

Batesville's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Monticello Billies, sneaking past 12-11.

Gabe Bledsoe was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Batesville: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin McCuiston, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Batesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Batesville pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.67 hits in those games compared to only 4.75 in the others. As for Monticello, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

Coming up, Batesville will host White Hall at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. White Hall's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Batesville's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Monticello, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 14-8 win against Prairie Grove on the 27th.
