Basketball Game Preview: St. Michael's Warriors vs. Savio Eagles

St. Michael has gone 8-2 against Savio recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The St. Michael's Warriors will challenge the Savio Eagles at 7:30 p.m. St. Michael's knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 20 matches -- so hopefully Savio likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, St. Michael's beat Antonian Prep 77-68. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Apaches are ranked 30th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Michael's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Nolan Barkley, who went 6 for 11 en route to 20 points and eight rebounds, and Aiden Disu, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. Those 20 points gave Barkley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bo Ogden, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

St. Michael's was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Antonian Prep only racked up nine assists.

Meanwhile, Savio was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 44-36 to Central Catholic. The game was a 17-17 toss-up at halftime, but the Eagles couldn't quite close it out.

St. Michael's victory was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Savio, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.

Everything came up roses for St. Michael's against Savio in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 76-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Michael's since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
