Corvallis has gone a perfect 4-0 against McKay recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Royal Scots at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Corvallis has ten straight wins, McKay has 23 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Corvallis came out on top against Crescent Valley on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Raiders. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Andrew Street spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Roy Bannister was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Axel Prechel, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Corvallis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Central hit McKay with a 13-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Royal Scots lost 20-3 to the Panthers.
Jeremy Toy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Jacob Webster was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Corvallis pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for McKay, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.
McKay's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Corvallis has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for McKay, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Corvallis' sizable advantage in that area, the Royal Scots will need to find a way to close that gap.
Corvallis took their victory against McKay in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-0 score. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Royal Scots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
