On Tuesday, Concord Academy beat East Rutherford 47-36. Given Concord Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while East Rutherford is ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Concord Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Justice Alexander, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The game was Alexander's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Janiya Byrd, who scored ten points.
East Rutherford's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Taniyah Cash, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, and Zilah Dewberry who scored 11 points. Cash scored a full 33.3% of East Rutherford's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Concord Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for East Rutherford, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 8-1.
