Football Recap: Hercules Skates Past El Cerrito with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hercules). They blew past the El Cerrito Gauchos 35-6 on Saturday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Titans' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 345th, while the Gauchos are ranked 698th).

Vanessa Rugama went supernova, throwing for 202 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of her passes. Her passing game has become a key predictor of Hercules' success: the team is undefeated when her passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 3-5 otherwise.

Hercules didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nia Saechao and Amanda Tsang. Saechao is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as she's now defended at least one in each of the last nine games she's played.

Hercules now has a winning record of 6-5. As for El Cerrito, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hercules will square off against De Anza at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dons' defense has only allowed 13 points per game this season, so the Titans' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for El Cerrito, they will venture away from home to face off against Sonoma Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Gauchos will be up against the Dragons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45.82 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
