The Iona Prep Gaels will head out on the road to challenge the St. Anthony's Friars at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Iona Prep has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while the Friars will arrive with three straight wins.
Last Friday, Iona Prep faced the Royals in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Iona Prep fell just short of the Royals by a score of 73-70. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meanwhile, St. Anthony's was able to grind out a solid victory over the Firebirds on Friday, taking the game 54-42. That's two games straight that St. Anthony's has won by exactly 12 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Anthony's to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kevin Moore, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Welling, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Iona Prep's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for St. Anthony's, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Iona Prep came out on top in a nail-biter against the Friars in their previous meeting back in January of 2018, sneaking past 43-41. Will Iona Prep repeat their success, or do the Friars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
