Pueblo South is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Pueblo County is on a ten-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Colts will host the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Pueblo South 4, Pueblo County 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Saturday, Pueblo South didn't have quite enough to beat Pueblo Central and fell 2-1. The match marked the Colts' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Meanwhile, Pueblo County made easy work of Pueblo Centennial on Saturday and carried off a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Blake Swift made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Pueblo County let Pat Noga and Jacob Gonzales run wild. Noga scored a run and stole four bases while going 3-for-3, while Gonzales scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those four stolen bases gave Noga a new career-high. Cole Barger was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Pueblo County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo Centennial only posted an OBP of .240.
Pueblo County's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Pueblo South, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-4.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pueblo South has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Pueblo County struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pueblo South couldn't quite finish off Pueblo County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Colts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
