Basketball Recap: Aaron Solorio's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hilmar over Sonora

Hilmar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell 60-52 to the Sonora Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1049th, while the Wildcats are ranked 378th).

Hilmar lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aaron Solorio, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 17 points and four steals. That's the most points Solorio has posted since back in February of 2024. Xavier Silveira was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine assists.

Sonora's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Luke Otterson, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Otterson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Noah Wright, who posted 12 points.

Hilmar's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Sonora, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-6.

Hilmar will be playing in front of their home fans against Orestimba at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hilmar is facing Orestimba at the right time seeing as Orestimba is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Sonora, they will venture away from home to challenge Hughson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sonora will also cruise into their next matchup with the timing on their side: Hughson will have lost four straight heading into Friday's game.
