Baseball Game Preview: Lancaster Flying Arrows vs. Southwestern Wildcats

The Lancaster Flying Arrows are taking a road trip to challenge the Southwestern Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Lancaster will be strutting in after a win while Southwestern will be coming in after a loss.

Lancaster was handed a 11-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged out New Glarus 10-9. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Flying Arrows as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Toay Ragatz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lancaster is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-8 otherwise. Ragatz was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elliot Webster, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Nolan Wolf was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Lancaster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Southwestern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against East Dubuque, falling 17-0.

Southwestern now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Lancaster, their record now sits at 7-9.

Lancaster was able to grind out a solid win over Southwestern in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 8-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flying Arrows since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
