The Southeast Halifax Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by North Edgecombe on the road and fell 75-24. While losing is never fun, Southeast Halifax can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 588th, while North Edgecombe is ranked 274th).
Southeast Halifax lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Iyana Harrison, who scored five points along with eight blocks and six rebounds. Those eight blocks set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Markayla Tann, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Southeast Halifax struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as North Edgecombe racked up 21 assists.
ShyNiya Ricks was her usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with eight steals and five assists for North Edgecombe. The contest was Ricks' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Diamond Wilson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight assists and eight steals.
Southeast Halifax bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for North Edgecombe, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Southeast Halifax will be playing in front of their home fans against Northampton County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northampton County's defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so Southeast Halifax's offense will have their work cut out for Southeast Halifax. North Edgecombe won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Tarboro at 4:30 p.m. on January 6th.
