Walden Grove took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Estrella Foothills. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Wolves have posted since April 24, 2024.
Walden Grove saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marcus Baray, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
Walden Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Tanque Verde made easy work of Douglas on Thursday and carried off a 14-7 victory. Considering the Hawks have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Landon Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. He has become a key player for Tanque Verde: the team is 5-0-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Liam Brunell was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Tanque Verde's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-0-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Lewis, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Tanque Verde's win bumped their record up to 6-3-1. As for Walden Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Walden Grove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Tanque Verde struggles in that department as they've averaged .552. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
