Even though the Mancos Bluejays have not done well against the Sanford Mustangs recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Mancos managed a 41-37 victory over Sanford. The score was all tied up 16-16 at the break, but Mancos was the better team in the second half.
Mancos found their leader in underclassman Claire Goodwin, who scored 20 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Goodwin has scored at least a third of Mancos' points. Teya Yeomans was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Mancos' win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Sanford, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mancos on the road again on Friday and play against Telluride at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th. Telluride will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Mancos is ranked 75th). Sanford will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Custer County at 4:30 p.m. on January 26th.
