Football Recap: Lamar Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Lamar had won four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 5-1 to make it five. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Simpson Academy Cougars 21-19. The Raiders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

It was another big night for Sullivan Reed, who rushed for 76 yards and one score, and also threw for 170 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes. A healthy portion of Reed's aerial production (86 yards to be exact) went to Jackson Whitcomb.

As for Simpson Academy, they now have a losing record of 2-3. The close game was extra heartbreaking for they, who almost overcame a 21 point deficit.

Simpson Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Kolt Walker and Braxton Baldwin. Walker picked up 101 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Baldwin punched in one rushing score.

Lamar wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 34-27 win against Mize on the 3rd. As for Simpson Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 21-14 victory against Oak Forest Academy on the 3rd.
