The Newport Wildcats will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Holy Cross Indians at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Newport will be strutting in after a win while Holy Cross will be coming in after a defeat.
Newport put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Dayton 38-7 on the road. Newport pushed the score to 30-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Dayton had little chance of recovering from.
Rod Thompson had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also picked up 103 receiving yards and a touchdown. Kyle Lee also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Meanwhile, there was early excitement for Holy Cross after they claimed the first score on Friday, but it was Ludlow who ended up claiming the real prize. Holy Cross was the victim of a tough 38-13 loss at the hands of Ludlow.
Newport's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Holy Cross, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Newport came up short against Holy Cross when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 26-22. Can Newport avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
