The McKinley Red Dragons were the 74-58 winner over the Mineral Ridge Rams when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. McKinley took a 61-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mineral Ridge on Saturday.
Despite the defeat, McKinley had strong showings from Stef Dorsey, who scored ten points along with six steals, and True Carey-Hardin, who scored 18 points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Carey-Hardin posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Avon Fryer, who scored nine points.
Mineral Ridge found their leader in underclassman Chase Moore, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 21 rebounds. Moore has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Jackson Geddes was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
McKinley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Mineral Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McKinley will take on Poland Seminary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Poland Seminary will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Mineral Ridge, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome McDonald at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
