Basketball Recap: Pamlico County Takes a Loss

If Pamlico County was feeling good fresh off their 63-29 takedown of Jones last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pamlico County Hurricanes fell just short of the Northside - Pinetown Panthers by a score of 56-53 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hurricanes have suffered since December 28, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Pamlico County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sydney Whitley-Reese almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine boards. Whitley-Reese has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Kyliyah Barber was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to six steals and five rebounds.

Northside - Pinetown's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olivia Jane Cahoon, who posted 11 points along with six steals and five assists. Another player making a difference was Sophie Berry, who put up nine points and three steals.

Pamlico County's loss dropped their record down to 19-4. As for Northside - Pinetown, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-1.

Pamlico County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 68-49 win against Southside on the 13th. As for Northside - Pinetown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-37 victory against East Carteret on the 13th.
