McKenzie is 1-9 against the Sailors since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The McKenzie Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Mapleton Sailors at 5:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: McKenzie has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while the Sailors will arrive with 14 straight victories.
Last Saturday, McKenzie took a serious blow against the Lakers, falling 74-47.
Despite the loss, McKenzie saw an underclassman step up: Rhys Hamlow scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Hamlow is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Will Meister was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Mapleton beat the on Saturday by the very same score they won with last week: 41-29.
McKenzie dropped their record down to 2-18 with that loss, which was their 27th straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.6 points per game. As for Mapleton, their victory bumped their record up to 19-2.
McKenzie took a serious blow against the Sailors in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 65-22. Can McKenzie avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
