The Washington County Panthers put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They skirted past Great Bridge 64-62. Given Washington County's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 91st in North Carolina, while Great Bridge is ranked 322nd in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Washington County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ke'Vontae Lucas, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Lucas is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Chesson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Washington County's victory bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Great Bridge, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tarboro at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Great Bridge won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Nansemond River at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Nansemond River has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
