SILVER CITY, N.M. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
St. Michael's (Santa Fe, N.M.) held on for a 28-21 victory over
Silver (Silver City, N.M.) on Saturday. The difference for the Horsemen was
Salomon Martinez ran for a touchdown.
The Horsemen led 21-14 at halftime, but the Fighting Colts recaptured the lead on a touchdown with 7:00 left in the third. St. Michael's finally took the lead for good as Martinez ran for a touchdown with 9:00 to go in the fourth quarter.
With the win SM extended its winning streak to eight games. The Santa Fe school defeated the Colts 58-7 last week.
Martinez played well for the Horsemen in the victory. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown. He has now scored 23 touchdowns on the season.
Silver's
Derek Salas played well. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown, ran for one touchdown and kicked one extra point.
The defeat comes as a step back for Silver, which notched a 34-7 victory over Santa Teresa in its previous outing. The loss snapped SHS's 2-game winning streak.
Silver (6-2) goes up against Socorro in a 3A District 3 game matchup next week, while St. Michael's (8-0) locks horns with Albuquerque Academy in a 3A District 5 game.
