The Rehoboth Christian Lynx will head out to square off against the Laguna Acoma Hawks at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rehoboth Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Rehoboth Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Hozho Academy and fell 4-3. The Lynx have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jonathan Zylstra spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Kodah Chapman and Jude Christensen did some serious damage despite the final result: Chapman went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI, while Christensen went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Laguna Acoma came tearing into Saturday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 23-1 margin over the Warriors. Considering the Hawks have won eight games by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayden Dailey made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Patrick Smith was a standout: he fired off two home runs, four stolen bases, and four runs while going 2-for-2. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Derek Victorino Jr, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs.
Laguna Acoma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Laguna Acoma's record now sits at 12-7. As for Rehoboth Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rehoboth Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Laguna Acoma struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rehoboth Christian beat Laguna Acoma 5-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lynx since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
