The Dublin Fighting Irish stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 49-21 victory over Wheeler County at home. Given Dublin's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Wheeler County is ranked 485th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nahallie Turnley continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Wright, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Nikita James and Shiann Carey certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. James scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Carey scored six points. That was a full 71.4% of Wheeler County's points, marking the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Wheeler County struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Dublin racked up 13 assists.
Dublin is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which somehow isn't as good as their 14-4 record this season. As for Wheeler County, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-12.
Dublin will face off against Jefferson County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson County comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Wheeler County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Telfair County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
