The Acalanes Dons will head out to challenge the Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Acalanes is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Acalanes managed to slip by Alhambra the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Dons lost 10-2 to the Bulldogs on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Dons couldn't push the score so high this time.
Acalanes saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emme Young, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Clayton Valley Charter had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Broncos.
Camdyn Alton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Marisa Vazquez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jana Rosas, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Clayton Valley Charter hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.
Clayton Valley Charter pushed their record up to 10-5-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Acalanes, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Acalanes hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Clayton Valley Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Acalanes suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Clayton Valley Charter in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Dons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
