Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 17 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Maplesville Red Devils proved on Thursday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 49-48 victory over Billingsley. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Maplesville also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Maplesville found their leader in underclassman Nehemiah McCary, who scored 21 points along with four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which McCary has scored at least 25% of Maplesville's points. Jonathan Wilson was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Billingsley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyle Boice, who scored 18 points along with three steals. The contest was Boice's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Boice, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Maplesville now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Billingsley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
Maplesville will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Notasulga at 6:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Billingsley will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Victory Christian at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th.
