Basketball Recap: Manzano Falls Despite Big Games from Daira Solis and Zaria Gomez

If Manzano was feeling good fresh off their 74-31 takedown of Socorro on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Manzano Monarchs fell 58-46 to the Albuquerque Academy Chargers on Saturday. The Monarchs have struggled against the Chargers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Manzano had strong showings from Zaria Gomez, who posted 23 points and three steals, and Daira Solis, who earned 15 points. The matchup was Gomez's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brianna Largo, who put up four points and five rebounds.

It was another big night for Addie Spratley, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine boards for Albuquerque Academy. The team also got some help courtesy of Harlow Schow, who had eight points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Manzano's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Albuquerque Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manzano will welcome Rio Grande at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Manzano is facing Rio Grande at the right time seeing as Rio Grande is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Albuquerque Academy, they will host St. Pius X at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
